RBR’s Sebastian Vettel secures pole position for 2011 Italian Grand Prix at Monza – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel successfully secured the pole position for the 2011 Italian Grand Prix on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Monza racetrack.
All the teams took part in the qualifying round in Italy and finished their runs after using the sets of medium and soft tyres by Pirelli.
Red Bull driver Vettel set the fastest time of 1 minute and 22.275 seconds in qualifying round 3 in dry conditions. After finishing his run at the top place in both Practice session two and three, the German retained his position in Qualifiers of the Italian
Grand Prix on Saturday.
The current world champion was closely followed by McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton, who had a gap of 0.450 seconds from Vettel and successfully managed his second place for Sunday’s race as well.
The Brit was fastest in Practice session 1, while he failed to top the next two Practice sessions at Monza, as Vettel was faster as compared to him during those.
His teammate Jenson Button finished his qualifying round in the third spot behind Hamilton with a gap of 0.502 seconds.
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso was not able to secure a top three position for the 2011 Italian Grand Prix during the qualifying round on Saturday. After struggling on the medium and soft tyres, the Spaniard ended his run at the fourth place ahead of Red
Bull’s second driver, Mark Webber.
Webber will start his Italian Grand Prix from the fifth place on the opening grid for his team on Sunday.
Alonso’s teammate Felipe Massa could only manage a sixth place for Sunday’s race after putting all of his efforts during Q3.
Renault’s Vitaly Petrov had a good stint in Q3 and he successfully finished his qualifying run in the seventh place ahead of Mercedes GP drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg.
Petrov, Schumacher and Rosberg had a fight in the closing time of Q3 for their best finish. However, Schumacher and Rosberg will start their 2011 Italian GP from the eighth and ninth places on the grid respectively.
Hispania Racing Team, Virgin Racing Team and Team Lotus drivers were not able to take part in Q2 and Q3, as they failed to complete their Q1 run under the 107 percent time rule.
Let’s see whether Vettel manages to win the race in the 2011 Formula 1 season at Monza after starting his Grand Prix from the pole place.
