RC CANNES defeats Bank BPS Fakro MUSZYNA by 3-0 – 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League
A semi-final match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women took place on February 7.
The French city of Cannes played host to the competition that was held between the home side of RC CANNES and the Polish squad of Bank BPS Fakro MUSZYNA. The venue of the competition was the Palais des Victoires where a total of 3,200 fans came to see the
RC squad make a show of their skills.
RC CANNES was able to win the match by 3-0 at 25-22, 25-18 and 25-16.
The CANNES squad was able to use their home side advantage and make a clean sweep over their opponents. Not only was the home team able to secure a win by bagging three consecutive sets, CANNES did so by winning each frame by a comfortable margin. The first
set of the match was the only one that saw some challenge put forward by the Polish side. Other than that, the performance of BPS Fakro was seen to deteriorate with each passing set.
The first set of the match started off with the home squad taking the lead and by the coming of the first technical timeout, RC CANNES was still leading the show.
However, the guests did not let their rivals go too far ahead after coming back onto the courts and managed to close in the gap. The spurt of speed put on by the Polish was propelled by their two key players Rachel Rourke and Debby Stam-Pilon. Unfortunately
for the guests, the French remained successful in bagging the opening frame of the match.
The second set of the match saw the home side take the leading position as they were able to get the advantage from the start of the match and were able to extend it further. The Polish kept on trailing behind all the way till the French had bagged themselves
another set.
The confidence generated from winning the first two sets of the game got the home side playing on their best in the third set that saw the Polish being smothered by their opponents.
