RC CANNES heads off to final four of 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League
A quarter final match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women took place on March 1 between the French team of RC CANNES as well as the Turkish squad of Vakifbank TTelekom ISTANBUL.
The French city of Cannes played host to the competition between the two sides. The venue of the competition was the Palais des Victoires which was packed with a total of 3,600 spectators hooting for the home team.
Both the teams put on a competitive show that took the match to five long and thrilling sets at the end of which the golden set was played. The home team was able to impress the audience as well as their opponents by first winning the match at the following
final set scores: 19-25, 25-14, 16-25, 25-21, 17-15 and also bagging the golden set at 18-16.
The first set of the game saw the guests come out strong and take the lead early on. Not only that, Vakifbank was able to extend their advantage while the home side kept on trailing behind. It did not take long for the guests to bag themselves the opening
set of the game at 25-19.
The loss of the first set got the home side to rally together and step up their game in the second frame. As a result, the French took the lead as soon as the frame started and sped on ahead with the advantage while the guests kept trying hopelessly to close
in the gap.
The French had the lead for themselves by the coming of the first technical time out at 8-7 and they stuck with it until the second technical time out at 16-11. After that point, it was only a matter of time before the French bagged themselves the second
frame of the game at 25-14.
The third set saw the match swing in favour of the home squad as they grabbed a 25-16 but the home team remained successful in bagging the fourth as well as the fifth sets in impressive fashion at 25-21 and 17-15 respectively. The celebrations did not end
there for the home side as they went for the golden set and took it too at 18-16.
