RC Cannes maintains winning streak of 5-0 – Women’s Volleyball
The French women’s top volleyball club team, RC Cannes, posted a 3-1 win over Turkish Eczacibasi Vitra Istanbul on Wednesday, January 11.
The French and Turkish teams met in the fifth leg of 2012 CEV Champions League Prelims at the Palais des Victoires sports hall in Cannes.
The French ladies exhibited spectacular performance and clinched success at the expense of one set. They claimed first two sets by putting up 25-22 and 25-19 on board, while the visiting team retaliated and responded with a 25-22 win in the third set. However,
the hosts bounced back in the game and put an end to the affair by winning fourth set, 25-21.
The game plan of RC Cannes perfectly executed and they extended their winning streak to 5-0 in Pool A. The fifth straight win confirmed RC Cannes’ participation in the next round of tournament. At the end of fifth leg of the league round, RC Cannes is staying
on top of the list with 336 points in five matches.
Eczacibasi’s Darnel Neslihan put up a valiant effort for her team and finished as the top-scorer in the match. She contributed a match-high 21 points. The French side was supported by Milena Rasic, who scored 19 points in the match. Likewise, Poljak of Turkey
and Centoni of France added 14 and 10 points, respectively.
The home team started out with convincing serves and scored good points in the first few minutes of the game. They promptly cruised past to 8-4 lead and put pressure on the opponent. The Turks tried to resist but could not stop the French hitters, who came
from all angles and offered strong offence. The scoreboard constantly showed the better status of French team as they rallied from 8-4 to 16-11. With a better combination of attack and defence strategies, RC Cannes claimed first set of the match at 25-22.
Eczacibasi gave a good competition to RC Cannes in the second set but failed to push the French behind the attack line. RC Cannes led the scores throughout the frame and extended its lead to 2-0 by winning the second set at 25-19.
The loss of two sets in row set the Turks on fire. They came up with a heavy strike of volleys in the third set and threw everything in attack. The situation got better for guest team as they went up on the scoreboard. Neslihan and Poljak put up a combined
effort and helped Turkey to capture the third set at 25-22.
Turk ladies played to their full potential in fourth set and struggled to create the deadlock of 2-2 but RC Cannes crushed their hopes and closed the match by winning fourth set at 25-21.
The French team will play one more match in the league round on Tuesday, January 17. They will take on Italian MC-Carnaghi Villa Cortese.
On the other hand, Eczacibasi is set to clash with German Schweriner on the same day.
