RC Cannes tipped to maintain winning streak in 2012 CEV Champions League – Preview
RC Cannes is the top women’s volleyball club team from France, which has done exceptionally well in the ongoing 2012 CEV Champions League.
The French ladies proved their endeavours in the prelims of tournament and remained undefeated. Under the leadership of Head Coach Yan Fang, the team appeared in six matches of preliminary robin round and finished the round with 6-0 record. After the completion
of preliminaries, the tournament entered the next stage of Super-16.
Out of 20 teams, only 16 teams managed to advance from the league round. The Super-16 round is currently underway and participating teams have played their opening matches in the first week of February.
According to the set formula of the Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV), each team is supposed to play one home and one away game in the crucial challenge round. At the end of this round, teams with final score of 2-0 will advance to the quarterfinals
of 2012 CEV Women’s Champions League.
In the case of a tie, the two teams will be offered to contest their skills in a golden set. The winner of the golden set will earn ticket to the next round, while the other team will be disqualified.
RC Cannes is going pretty strong in the Super16 round of the tournament. The French ladies opened the influential round by taking on Poland’s Bank BPS Fakro Muszyna on 2nd February. Poland hosted the match but failed to profit the home advantage. The RC
Cannes musketeers continued with their winning ways and defeated the Polish rivals in straight sets. In the next run, the two teams are scheduled to meet again in the city of Cannes on Tuesday, February 7.
Bank BPS has a tough challenge in the next match. They will have to sustain pressure of strange audience and give out their best, in order to overcome RC Cannes. Nevertheless, the chances are low as French side has not dropped any match in the campaign so
far and they are the top team of the tournament. The next fixture is likely to attract huge number of French volleyball enthusiasts, who will serve as an extra advantage for home team.
The French team is enjoying a top form and seem totally shaped up to prove its supremacy in tomorrow’s match. Rasic Milena, who added 19 points in the last match against Bank BPS, is determined to lead her team to success.
Likewise, Spasojevic is another weapon that RC Cannes will be using in the upcoming encounter. Spasojevic has a great skill to poke the ball in gaps. She contributed 17 valuable points in the last match.
On the other hand, Polish team will be relying on the duo of Rourke and Werblinksa. Both these players put up valiant effort to save the last match. However, it proved to be a failing effort and Poland lost the match.
RC Cannes has bright prospects to win the next match but Bank BPS will be trying hard to create a buzz on the centre court. Lets’ wait and see which team comes on top.
