Question:

RC Helicopters. Are they that hard to fly?

I have no experience. I want to get a ready to fly kit that has everything for around $180. This would be an electric model. Can I teach myself to fly? Is it a waste of money?

  1. LOL I like the last part. Is it a waste of money?

I have invensted hundreds and hundreds of dollars in helicopter hobby. The bad thing about this hobby is once your start you're hooked and can hurt your wallet. It's not a waste of money but can be really expensive and may not feel the saticfaction you'd hoped.

Helicopters are considered much harder to fly... but if you've never flown anything rc before it can actually seem quite easy. There are a range of helicopters and helicopter types you can purchase. Each have they're own skill level and provide different abilities you can do with them.

4 channel coaxil heli's are very easy to fly, someone who's never done it before can pick up the radio and pretty much hover. Though it may be easy it can get boring fast.

Next is fixed pitch 4 channel heli which is usually more expensive, still easier to fly, but give's you more freedom and more of a 3 dimensional feel as to how you can fly it.

Next is probably the most expensive, most time consuming, but FUNNEST and I just love more than anything. 6 channel heli is refered to as collective pitch which can fly 3d. Upside down, flips rolls, and loops. It is hard and time consuming but most everyone who get's to this stage don't regret all the money they've spent to get there (like me :P).

Best one to start out with if you just want to dip your foot in the water to see if you like it is the E-sky Honey bee king 2, it's easy to learn on, setup, and repair parts are dirt  cheap, and you can 3D when your ready. This kit can be found for under 180 dollars shipped.

With anyone looking to get into this hobby I always recommend a simulator for your computer to start. You can learn and practice to your hearts content, crash over and over and not bare the cost of the real thing. Try looking up Real Flight G4 or FSone to research.

    cheers

  2. I would start off with one under $30--Really Cheap -Just learn to fly b4 u wreck ure $200 investment

and(or) then get a good pre made one for $65- And As Soon as u perfect how to fly

Buld it with help or get a pemade heli an mod it

  3. If this is the first one you might want to go with the Axe ez 2 or something like it or you might end up spending more on repairs and replacements
