I've recently suffered the consequences of buying a medium dollar television from Wal Mart Manufactured by RCA. My set was purchased right before X-mas 2005 as a gift to my wife and two children. A few days before thanksgiving this year we expirenced a fatal mishap with our joyous hunk oh junk. At the end of a new DVD we were veiwing as a familly one evening the tv shut itself off, then on again, then off, then on again, then off, then on again, more then several times until it just plain died? I tried to manually turn it back on manually at the set. It would not turn on. My twelve year old son tried the remote. It did not respond. Instincfully i unplugged the set for an hour, then plugged it back in and it automatically turned on. Once again no response from the remote or power button on the tv. I tried the volume and channel buttons and they shut off and turned on the tv. So i called the 800 phone number listed in my RCA tv warranty manual and it was not an RCA phone number any longer. So i searched in all my papers tat accompanied my 27 inch tv and found another phone number and called it. All i reached was an automated system telling me to phone an RCA authorized repair center. The man asked for the symtoms and offered me information that the model and serial number i gave him indicated it came with aone year IN HOME waranty. I got excited!! He said he would call Rca for authorization and in as little two weeks come to my home and fix my factory defective television. He explained that he fixed many of this model with the same exact problem and all it would take is a new button control panel to fix it. Here it is two days before X-mas and 30 to 40 phone calls and several trips to Wal Mart, RCA declared that they are not reliable for ANY costs of repair or replacement parts and that i have to pay for it myself. Because my warranty card on record expires on Dec. 11th 2006 but RCA is going backwards two weeks and since i don't have and can not get a bill of sale from Wal Mart proving i didn't pick up my tv till after Nov. 30th,2005 I do not have a valid warranty! So in short? What happened to THe hudge reputation of RCA??? Did Terroist buy out RCA?? Please hard working americans DO NOT BUY RCA PRODUCTS? My children, wife and i have not had tv familly nite since before thanksgiving this year clearly because of RCA s******g this hard working american welder/fabricator ,steel worker, non-union familly of four provider. My problem is a little different. I bought my RCA 50" DLP television from Wal-Mart about 13 months ago. Just last night the replacement lamp blew.(part #270414) I thought to myself, it's been 13 months, no big deal. I called up the RCA parts dept. to order a new one, only to find out that they no longer made the lamp. I paid $1300.00 for a little over a year of watching T.V.. I too will never, ever, buy another RCA product in my life.
