  1. absolutely!

The one I have converts it to the headphone-sized male plug.  So I have one of these wires going from my media center computer to my stereo receiver left and right (right and white) channels.

Not sure what to call it exactly, but you find this type of cable anywhere.

  2. Sure there is. The plug that has both channels is called a stereo plug. You need to find out what kind of jack you want to plug in to. It is probably one of three kinds: A 1/4 in. stereo jack, a 1/8 inch stereo jack, or a "mini" stereo jack. Once you know to what you want to connect, you can buy an "adapter cable" with whatever ends you need.

  3. yup.  but if you do that you wont get stereo or surround sound. I know they have that cable at best buy.

  4. Component- Has a Red, Blue, Green RCA style plug for video, this is for HD video. You need a red and white RCA audio cables for sound.

Composite- Has a Yellow RCA Style plug for video (not HD), and a red and white audio plug.

Y cable- Combines the left and right channel into one mono signal. Good for subs or combining two sources for one input/output.
