  1. Think of the TV as a display output device.  

    What is the input?  Cable box?  Satellite Receiver?  OTA antenna?  If the input goes straight to the TV, then you need an output on the TV to feed it back to your RCA.  Otherwise you reroute the input to the RCA instead of the TV.

    I don't use any audio on my TV, it all gets routed straight into the HT Receiver.


  2. You need to make sure your TV is setup in the proper output configuration. You do this by consulting your manual or accessing your programming menus and bulling your way through without reading the manual, which is what most people do. You also need to ascertain whether you are dealing with pre-separated signals or composites, and use the appropriate inputs and outputs between your components.
