  1. RCA input is just the name of the type of plug, where the outside sheath I think is negative and the inner pin is positive. Tt still just amounts to two wires.  This plug has been around since I was a kid, its what you usually see on the back of tvs, vcrs, and boom boxes.

  2. I saw speakers like that when I was a kid, but that was a while back and the speakers were far from new then.

Any modern speaker, even very cheap, will almost for sure have push tab or s***w post connectors. Most powered PC speakers have mini-jack inputs (like the headphone plug).

    Option 1:

I don't know if you have some ancient receiver or something with RCA jack speaker connectors that are hardwired in. If so, I'd recommend cutting that connector off (leaving the maximum amount of wire possible, just minus the RCA jack). Strip off a little of the insulation on the end of that and what you will have left is two wires which, voila, you can stick into any modern speaker's connector.

Option 2 (if you don't want to cut anything on your source unit):

Buy a cheap stereo RCA to RCA cable at any electronics store, also buy a set of RCA couplers (like shown in the link), cut of the RCA plugs from one end of the cable, use the coupler to join this cable to your source unit and again, voila, you have a set of bare wire outputs that connect to any modern speaker.

Option 3 (if you don't want to cut anything and want to use powered PC speakers):

Buy a mini-jack to RCA adapter like in the second link and plug it into the input jack of said PC speakers.

  3. Powered studio monitors accept RCA inputs.

These are speakers designed for near field, highly accurate, audio reproduction.  The have built in amplifiers, so you will need to be able to plug each one into an outlet (or power strip).

Unfortunately, most studio monitors are a bit on the pricey side.  The cheapest ones I've seen are $150 a pair...
