RCB summoned by BCCI over delayed player salaries – Cricket News Update
Officials from the Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore have been summoned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in reference to the issue of delayed player payments for the 2012 season, with the board having ordered team management to obtain NOCs from unpaid players in regards to a revised payment schedule.
"The IPL governing council today summoned the RCB officials to the governing council meeting to discuss on the players' payment issue," a senior official from the governing council confirmed to the PTI. "After discussions, the BCCI has asked RCB to get 'No Objection Certificate' from the cricketers on the revised payment schedule. The franchise has promised that they would produce the NOC in some time."
According to the pay schedule, under clause 1.a.i of every tri-partite IPL contract (which marks an agreement between the player, the franchise and the Indian Premier League), contracted players are due to receive the first instalment – 15% of their total season fee – by April 1 (i.e. before the season begins), 50% of the payment by May 1, 20% following the related Champions League Twenty20 tournament, and the final 15% by December 1.
However, the RCB management has not adhered to the schedule, and has yet to pay contracted players up to 65% of their salaries. Players on the team roster include local cricketers from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 remains the only player who has received his contracted amount.
"The BCCI can still wait for its yearly franchise fee but it is unfair if the players' salaries are not paid on time," the BCCI official said.
The board has been forced to interfere owing to the fact that the RCB management have maintained a complete silence in regards to the issue, with various attempts by the players to contact the franchise owners having gone in vain. Queries by the cricketers’ home boards and the FICA have also gone unanswered.
The developments come in the wake of the financial difficulties which have hit the franchise owners - the UB group – with owner Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher Airlines having accumulated debts of up to $1.3b.
