After 2 days of searching for the carpenters nail through my cable all was fine. Final fix completed and the decorators put the kettle on and the circuit tripped. Different circuit now thats developed a problem.

Any small items phone chargers etc fine, kettle or the oven on and the RCD trips. This is a house converted into two flats. If the kettle is plugged into the top flat then the RCD trips in the downstairs flat!!!

I'm a recently qualified electrician just about to sit my 17th edition exam (monday) and haven't done my inspection and test course yet. Can anyone help me with this fault as i'm a bit baffled on this one.

Thanks

Kellie

  1. Very strange scenario. I would suggest doing an insulation test on both the circuits (neutral to earth in particular). If that tests fine, I would try a continuity test between both the neutrals on those circuits (with them out of the neutral link of course). Maybe there is a crossed neutral. That's the best I can think of. Good luck (I think you need it)
