Question:

RDP or Dameware to family PCs

I use Dameware at work to remotely fix PCs. Does anyone have a HOWTO or guide for setting this up over the Internet? I want to install a remote client on family PCs at my brother and mom's house so that I can remotely fix them. I am assuming I will have to set up port forwarding in their router, but instead of experimenting I figured I would see if any networking experts here have a nice little 1,2,3 guide to set it up.

  1. Take RDP for example,

    Your Router has a public IP there. Let's call it 100.100.100.100, your PC is 192.168.1.1. On your router, map it.

    100.100.100.100:3389->192.168.1.1:3389

  2. Given that most home systems do not have a fixed IP address, setting a a remote client becomes a pain, because when they need you, the chances that the IP address is the "same as last time" always turn out slim.

    Try using one of the free remote control websites like Logmein.com. It's free, works great, and since the client is working with the web site, there is no need for port forwarding or VPN tunnels. The site takes care of all that

  3. Instead of Dameware i use LogMeIn.

    you can use the free version or other versions depending on your needs. you can remotely control ur pc, as well as chat, have remote sound, etc, again depending on ur version (free will have remote control and chat)

    Peace
