The problem is the old flick switch has L1, L2 and Com terminals but my dimmer has only terminals for L1 and Com the L2 is missing is this a fault with the dimmer switch or can I still wire it up. One the dimmer switch it does say L2 but there is no terminal. Thanks

  1. No this is not a fault. Just wire it up using the two available terminals. The L2 terminal is only needed when you are wiring two - way lighting. A dimmer switch shouldn't be used for two way lighting.

    Hope this helps

Why would you want to  use a dimmer for two way lighting?

If you dim it from the first switch you will not be able to use the dimmer on the second switch. It will be stuck at the low light level untill you raised it on the first switch again.

  2. You've bought a 1-way switch to replace a 2-way switch.

    It ain't gonna work.

  3. You have bought a one way dimmer switch.  You need a two way dimmer switch.

The one you have will not work, but a 2 way one will.

  4. Generic dimmer switch but only one terminal connection.

L2 is for a three way wiring

  5. The answer to your question is No you can't wire it up. Take it back to the shop were you brought it & see if they will swap your one way dimmer S/w for a two way dimmer S/w ( it will cost about £1/-£2 more ) Then just wire it the same way as the old rocker S/w
