  2. Rome to Florence by train  is very easy and I can highly recommend Florence. It's wonderful. Very cheap too to travel by train in Italy. I would think that Venice would be rather a long way to go if you're based in Rome as its around 7 hours travel by train.

    Buona fortuna

  3. Have fun!!! Bon Voyage!!!!

  4. In sept. 2003 i travel to Europe, and went to italy for 5 days, I bought adn Eurorail pass for 3 countries but you can by only for one country, it is better to travel by train because yo can even sleep in the train. with  passes can sleep in shared compartiments of 5 people, if you have a lsr class ticket you can do it by sleeping  in second class. In rome buy a pass for one week to use teh subway metro, buses and tranvia, it  was about 20 euros , you can choose first day to go to St, Peter Basilica, The Vatican Museum the Sixtine Chapel, if you want you can go to the BAsilica dome in elevator, but you have to pay also the museum costs 10 Euros, the subways stots says Vatican, th second day I went to the Forum in front of the Colliseum, and in the afternoon I walked in the main streets and Avenues nearby.

The trird dayyou can choose going over the city teh Fountains, get a mcdonals map in any macdonals to go to trevi it is easier with that map, do not expect much of this fountain, then go aroudn the city, via del corso, via condoti here there are the most important designers boutiques, then I would go to Florence the next two days bu the ticket for Uffici Gallery the day before, it is better to be sure, the day you arrive go to see the DAVID, Giotho Basptisterio in front of the Santa Maria Magiori,  Vechios Birdge, Mecicis Castle, go aroun the city, it is better in the aftenoon to take a bus an go around retuning at the same point, the train station, near the Cathedral,  the last day in Rome. Rome and Florence  are the most beautiful cities. I got everything for my trip in internet maps, metro and subways map, that way I kwen the cities before I arrrived.

  5. You can spend at least a week in Rome, but if you want to visit another location, Florence  would be the closest to Rome - about 2 hrs by train.  Venice is my favorite city in Italy, as it's unlike any other city, but you will spend almost a day traveling each way, so since you're time is limited - Florence would be you're best best.

Talk to a Travel Agent and have them purchase you the best Eurail pass to meet your needs.  If you're not planning to travel anywhere else but one other city, it might be cheaper just getting a train ticket - you'll have to pay extra to have the pass or tickets expedited to you.  You can buy train tickets in Rome, but, if you decide on a Eurailpass, you can only purchase those in the US.

    Have a great time.
