It seems more and more companies want you to use an auto debit from a bank card account ( debit or credit cards) Is there a way to stop an auto transaction from happening once you initiated this type of transaction even though you have called and asked to cancel or not to proceed with such transactions?

  1. The other post is partially correct.   My bank told me the only way is to have the card itself hot carded or hot listed.   This way they can not get your new card number.   You may be out of luck with your first transaction.   When or if you get a bill from them with late charges,  send it bank with the word CANCELED across the bill.   This should prevent it from going to collection agencies.   In the meantime  do not use the service.

Myself,  I never use automatic transaction unless it is the last resort.

  2. If the money has already been taken out of your account, you will have to go through the company to get any money back.

However, if the money has not been taken out of the account, and the transaction has not finished the clearing process, you can put a stop payment on the transaction.  You can also do a stop payment to prevent this company from trying to take any more money out of you account.  There is usually a fee for this, somewhere around $30.
