everyone around me also says, hey find a new babysitter! he has only been going since Jan. 14 and i was trying to give her the benifit of the doubt, since this is his first rodeo, but it looks like she is doing more harm than anything else... although she really works w/ them and teaches them well, its just certain things that dont add up w/ her?! i just dont want to not get him tested, then when he starts school, they put him in "special needs." but on the other hand, i dont want to put him through all that testing stuff, b/c deep down inside i know as a parent that there isnt anything wrong, b/c it would have never crossed my mind if she hadn't brought it up :) i really appreciate all the advise that you have given me!! also i will be on the look out for a new baby sitter!!

thanks

  1. Special needs is probably different than the image that you have from how it was when you were a kid.  If your child has some needs the more support the better and the earlier the better.  The test results are not considered to be very reliable or respected.  It is basically a way to justify the need for services.  Most areas have what is called full-inclusion classrooms in the public school district.  My 7 y.o. son is in a full inclusion classroom.  The class has up to 30% of identified kids with delays.  The other 70% are typical.  Just today I received  my sons psychological eval results and do to many reasons they grossly underestimate his abilities.  I plan to disagree and have an independent eval done (at the school districts expense)

  2. I would just get him tested because it is better safe than sorry. Even if your wrong and there is something wrong then at least he would get the help that he needs - if your right and there is nothing wrong - find a new babysitter good luck with everything

  3. ummm...ok

  4. The best thing to do is get him tested, my son was behind because he couldn't see shapes like we do and it was hard for him to learn his alphabet and numbers. He didn't need special needs because we found out early. He is a smart child. He is in grade 11 now.

  5. just get him tested
