I do not usually watch Stanley Cup play-offs. But yesterday, I just started to watch a game and loved it so much. I guess it was intensity, speed, technique of the players...Can someone explain me from this point how many games for eighter team have to played to win Stanley? What happens if for eg. Pens did not win this time? No offence to fans of these teams. I am neutral and love sportsmanship. Just want to know the rules...

  1. Each playoff series has a total of 7 games. In order to win the series, you have to win 4 out of the 7 games.

If the Pittsburgh Penguins did not win, they would have been out of the playoffs and the Detroit Red Wings would have won the Stanley Cup because they would have won 4 games in the series. But since Pittsburgh won, the Red Wings only have 3 wins so they are unable to win the cup.

The series is now 3-2 for the Detroit Red Wings, so if the Red Wings win 1 more game, they will win the Stanley Cup! But if the Pittsburgh Penguins win the next 2 games, they will win the Stanley Cup.

  2. Glad you enjoyed it!  Each of the playoff series is a 'best of 7', so last night the Wings could have won the Stanley Cup had they won the game, because they already have 3 wins.

Now we go back to Pittsburgh for Game 6, and if the Penguins win that one, it's back to Detroit for the do or die game 7!

The sad part is that once the Cup has been awarded, and we've all done crowing or crying, the NHL season is done, and we have to wait for September for the new Regular season - look in now and again, and grow to love the sport!

    Go Wings.

  3. There are 7 games in a series. You need to win 4 out of 7 games to win the series. Going into last nights game the Redwings were up 3 games to 1. If they had won last night the cup would have been theirs.

Now we go on to game 6 to see if the Pens can even things up a bit and make it interesting.

  4. The Redwings have to win one more game, and the Pens have to win two straight

  5. going into yesterday's game, the Red Wings had won 3 games and the Pens had won 1, so the series was 3-1 in a best of seven series (i.e. 4 wins gets you the Stanley Cup)

had the Pens lost last night, the Wings would be the Cup champions, but since they won the next game (Game 6) is still an elimination game for the Pens.

if the Wings win they still win the cup, but if the Pens win it goes to Game 7, in which the winner of that game will be the champions

  6. Wings are the better team but they seem to be cursed, each time after they got the Pres Trophy.
