Question:

REALLY weird basketball move , is it a violation?

If you plant one of your feet to the floor then spin your body 360 degrees (or more) while you use your other leg to spin. While spinning, your other leg isn't on the ground. Basically just spinning on a place without jumping while HOLDING the basketball. After that the defender gets kind of confused, then do a crossover. Lol I was thinking about doing that when me and my friends play. The question is, is it a violation?

  1. Well, if you haven't started dribbling before holding the basketball I highly doubt you'll fool anyone.

If you do it mid-dribble, I don't think it's legal since you are palming or carrying the ball way too long while executing your spin (again, keep in mind that the ball must always be moving during your dribble--and notice how long you are palming or carrying ball while executing this maneuver).

I suppose on the playground where rules are lax, you might be able to get away with it but I doubt you'd be able to pull it off more than once in a real referee'd game (the first time the refs might notice it but not call it).

The key to pulling off this move is to dribble the ball once in the opposite direction of your spin. That's exactly what Allen Iverson did in some commercial a few years back where he says something like "I give them a slow spin..."

Anyway, pulled off right, this is a great looking move.  Good luck with it!

  2. Weel kind of confuse the way you describe , but think like following if you just receive the ball and start spinning you can do it as long as your body works like a compass your pivot feet should not transport you at any time. You can dribble at any time without problem.

If you alreqady dribble and stop bouncing the ball you only can spin and passing the ball , no dribble again until you receive back the ball

    Have a ball!

  3. Cool move!

    LOL!

    Kobe should learn that....

It's not a violation, but it's pretty much of a joke.

Defenders aren't going to fall for that, you'll just make a fool of yourself.

  4. the LAUGHING alone would buy you a few seconds...

  5. crucial things:

you pivot foot stays put. ok.

your holding and not dribbling the ball. ok.

your crossover should maintain your pivot foot. ok.

spinning alone will not likely confuse the defender. you'll likely have to fake a pass or jumpshot to get him move his feet. then you spin like a ballerina and do your crossover. it will be very hard to do though, spinning, then as you face the basket do the crossover without tripping on your own feet as it should be fast enough to beat the defender and drive to the basket. if its slow, yeah, youll hear a lot of laughs and the defender may just stand there.
