I don;t mind helping out for our planet and paying for carrier bags etc but surely we should have the choice. I went to a supermarket yesterday and bought some food and there was not one bag in the shop - i had to carry all this home and half of it was broken by the time i get home. Surely we should be able to buy some by choice. I think a lot more things can dbe done from the planet but disagree with the carrier bag thing. Does anyonme know where we can get a reusuable bag free delivered to the house

  1. I don't know about free bags delivered to your house, but Jewel, Walmart, Trader Joes & Whole foods sell reusable cloth bags for about $1.  I have 5 bags I keep in my car at all times.

Every couple of weeks, I throw them in my washer and then hang them up to dry.

  2. It's a chicken or the egg question. Right??

  3. Maybe you should reuse the plastic bags that you get from other stores.  This way, you won't have to pay the $1 for the canvas bag (which is much more useful, carries more weight and can be used for endless things).

I think the point that the store you're referring to is trying to make, is that the bags provided are not free for them and they do not support the waste that they will add to our environment.  I actually think that the store is doing what all stores should be doing.  They should provide a notice at the entrance to their store, indicating their policy so that customers can make the choice that is best for their budget.

  4. Those plastic grocery bags are not free.  Most stores give a 5 cent discount when you bring your own bag.  Over the years, billions of these plastic bags have been produced.  They were not produced for free, you have paid for them indirectly over and over.

  5. Reusable bags are not free. Most stores will sell them from around a dollar to five dollars. Places like Whole Foods sell really good reusable bags cheap.

  6. I'm not sure you're going to get bags delivered free to your house, but with a little effort on your part I'm sure you can start to amass your own collection!  Try asking on freecycle.  Or, if you know anyone who has gone to a conference or trade show related to their business, they may have been given tote bags with company names and logos on them.  If you don't mind doing free advertising when you shop, those totes are very sturdy and can be used again and again.  I keep them all folded up in one large one and take all the bags I have collected with me when I shop.

  7. I've never seen free bags but you can get a dozen for $10 on ebay. I use them for everything. Carrying kids stuff around, library book trips, etc.

  8. I don't think you're going to find any "free" reusable bags...unless some one gives you one/some, as a gift. Just spend the $1.00 on the canvas bag, it's well worth it as they can hold a tremendous amount of weight. It's a heck of a lot better than those nasty, never decompose, plastic bags. I have 4 of them, best buck I've spent.

  9. If you don't want to pay the dollar for a reuseable bag from Walmart or Target, then try to be creative! I'm sure you (or someone you know) have extra unused totes around the house that would work well for shopping trips.

  10. You can take old jeans cut off the legs sew the unhemed part add handle now you have recycled, washable, and FREE shopping bags.

  11. i do not know of any place that has them for free but walmart, rouses and winn dixie sell the reuseable ones for a dollar a bag ...............also i shop at a store called save a lot you can buy bags for 3-10 cents a bag i on the other hand place my groceries in a laundry basket-- it is easier to bring in the house from the car
