RENEWABLE is silver bullet to solve energy problem?

maybe .. sort of ... in the distant future.

Right now, renewable sources like wind and solar are expensive and too intermittent. But we should build as much of this as we can, as that tends to lower the price.

A recent article in Scientific American proposed a plan for the US, of huge solar arrays in the SW part of the country with a new power distribution system. They claim it will be economically competitive (with some subsidies), and could supply 50% of the countries needs by 2040. But that is a major project. I think the number is $40 Billion.

Nuclear is the best option at present. It's not really renewable, but there is a huge supply of fuel, and no real pollution.
