Question:

REVISED holley 600cfm carb issue

ok, i have a holley 600csf carb, i adjusted the floats so no fuel was dripping at idle (so it's not flooding out anymore) NOW it idles ok i guess but when i put it in drive it seems like it bogs down and then cuts off, sometimes there is a lil pop sound when im driving... HELP PLEASE (NOTE: i did put a fuel filter and fuel regulator on and have it set at 3 both of those are between the carb and fuel pump) the PCV valve dosent have a good seal to the valve cover i noticed, could it be a vaccume issue. being the carb has 2 vaccume lines hooked up to it, one from the distributer and one from the valve cover pcv valve

***NEW!!-- when the engine is idleing it runs fine even when i put gas to it... it revs up fine, it's just when i put it in drive or reverse where it idles down and choaks off... i called holley tech and he said i might have the wrong power valve in being i have a 294 cam in the engine...and yes i bought the carb BRAND NEW at auto zone... and he also said the vaccum seal on the PCV valve might be an issue too, i can s***w the air to fuel mixture s***w all the way in and it wants to choak off then i back it out until it starts to idle good... being that it only dose it in gear is why i was thinking it was a vaccum issue...what about the needles in the carb do i have those set too high, cause i did adjust the floats so there was no fuel dripping in the bowl at idle, and the poping sound only happens a few times, when i had it in gear and push the gas down to accelerate is when it pops (or poofs) happens every so often not all the time, i can push the gas down and it acts like its struggling to go (bogged down)

  1. The poping is likely a timing issue, but with such a fat cam you may have to live with the pop. Check timing, r****d it slightly 4-5 BTDC. reset idle and see what happens.

  2. try a different grade of gas or change your timing a little.

  3. have you tried changing the jets in it and check all the gaskets make sure they are ok and check all your vacum lines check the gas flow to it and the camming and the timing on the car

  4. I guess you mean the fuel level is just below the sight plug. The fuel pressure is supposed to be between 5-7 psi at all times so 3 is too low.Since it idles OK take the carb off the engine and turn it upside down and you want to look at the transfer slot on the primary side. At idle speed the slot should show about 1/16 of an inch or less and the secondary side shows just as tiny an amount as possible. If these are wrong when you adjust the mixture screws not much will happen.Next the accel pump needs adjustment, usually a larger cam like the 294 will mean the carb will need something like a 45 squirter It should never pop or bog
