The Spanish football federation announced their decision to exclude Santiago Bernabeu from the list of possible venues for the Copa del Rey final.
In a repeat of the 2009 Copa del Rey final, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 and Athletic Club lock horns for the prized Spanish domestic cup competition. The Mestalla hosted the final on that occasion and proved to be too small for the event.
With the Spanish football federation taking precaution to avoid their previous mistakes, the hosting of the cup finale has become an irksome problem for the governing body.
Madrid seems to be the best option for hosting the event as they have two world class footballing venues available. With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vicente-c36001 Calderon ruled out because of their prior engagements, only Santiago Bernabeu is left as a viable option in the capital.
The Santiago Bernabeu is ideal for hosting the event, due to its large capacity and locality. However, Los Blancos are reluctant to lease their stadium for the event and have voiced their reservations to RFEF.
Despite vocal requests from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Athletic-Club-c38535 to host the event in the 86 thousand capacity stadium, Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president, Angel Maria Villar, revealed that they have accepted Madrid’s terms.
"Madrid have declared themselves and it's ruled out. Florentino [Perez] spoke to the federation and he has transmitted his decision. As club employees have said, it cannot be," Villar said on Radio http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nacional-c39984 de Espana.
"Athletic insisted, but if it cannot be, it cannot be."
Continuing on the topic, Villar explained that no resolution has been made on the subject of the venue but they have plenty of ready options. He added that they will hold another meeting between the concerned parties after their previous meeting did
not bear the desired fruits.
"It still hasn't been determined. The two teams will get together and we will listen to them, which is what we have always done. There has already been one meeting without an agreement and we will now call another one."
Despite the failure to decide the venue for the final, the clubs and RFEF have managed to come together on a date for the final, which has been set for May 25th.
