RHH: Continuing from Omagus' question...?

Question

If you feel that an artist is overrated, meaning that as far as you are concerned that artist gets more credit and praise than they deserve, does it really matter what others think?

We all love different rappers for different reasons. We can argue back and forth on who deserves credit and why, but in the end, these are all just other people's opinions. They in no way should change how you feel about an artist, or how you rate them. If you think NaS, Pac, or Biggie is the GOAT, that's your business.

^^Funny how you're calling a question about OPINIONS dumb.

This is all true.  I enjoy discussing hip hop, and I am pretty opinionated on it but at the end of the day I realize that my opinions are just mine. I'll never criticize anyone for also giving their own.  If someone makes a statement saying that Soulja Boy is the GOAT, I might express my view on why I disagree but I'll never say that they are *wrong*.

You make a good point. For me, I get frustrated when I get attacked for my opinion. I probably shouldn't, but I'm human, and I do.

I guess it all comes down to discussion. I love discussing hip hop, and if that means putting opinions out there that may be contraversial, then cool. As long as it opens up a reasonable debate.

But I don't want to get bashed for thinking a rapper is overrated any more than it is my intention to bash someone who loves that rapper.

I like the debate, I hate when it becomes an argument.

if a hypothetical rapper is thought to be the greatest ever by one person and everyone else thinks hes terrible, obviously he is closer to being terrible than great.

I don't think it matters, but it makes for good discussion. Like I said on Omagus' question some people just take your opinion of their favorite artist personal, if your opinion is that they're overrated

I agree that it doesn't matter what others think, but at the same time I'm sure we all wanna know what others think, after all, thats why we're on YA... also, its a good cause discussion/debate, and I'll never see somethin wrong with a good debate. arguin on the other hand is different

I agree with you.  I don't knock other peoples GOAT, but when I hear Wayne I will admit it bugs me.  I try not to even pay attention to Wayne stans tho.  But I feel where you are coming from.

your 100% right. its just like this Vibe best rapper live competition, its Jay Z vs Eminem, who ever wins ISNT the best rapper alive, there the most POPULAR rapper alive.

there will NEVER be a G.O.A.T. ever cos everyone has a different opinion. the one who could be seen as the best is Rakim, cos who hasnt he inspirated? but thats just an opinion of many.

I agreed with Omagus, if you say someone is overrated, it doesn't necessarily mean you dislike the artist...I understood his point.
