3 people go to a hotel and they ask for a room for the night.

It costs them $30 so they each pay $10 each.

Attendee at the receptionist table then realizes that the a room only costs $25 a night.

So then she gives a dollar back to each of the 3 people and keeps $2 for herself.

Mathematically each person paid $9 each and there were 3 people paying it, so they paid a total of $27(9x3) plus the $2 that the receptionist kept only equals $29.

So where did the other dollar go?

  1. you got confused because the statement is wrong because each person DID NOT pay $9 each. you cannot divide 3 by 25 perfectly. the room costs $25. she returned $3. so it's $28. plus the $2 that she kept. that makes it $30.

  2. what the, something is wrong there

  3. they pay $30 in total

the attendee gives back 3$ in all & keeps 2$...

so that is 30-3=27$....and she keeps 2 so...27-2=25$

    thats all

  4. They each pay 10 x 3 = 30

    get back           1 x  3=  3

    30-3=27

she keeps 2 ; 27-2=25=cost of the room

    It's all there.

  5. they really payed 9.333333333

  6. three people paid 30 dollars

the desk lady made a mistake of 5 dollars

each of the three people get one dollar back

so now there is 2 dollars left

the desk lady keeps the 2 dollars

so there is NO money left over

Mathematically each person paid $9 each and there were 3 people paying it, so they paid a total of $27(9x3) plus the $2 that the receptionist kept only equals $29.

^^that part is just throwing you off!^^

  7. Because the second part of this question isn't correct. Yes they each paid $9, and that equals $27. 27-2=25= the real price of the room. You subtract the two, not add them! The wording makes it confusing, but the second part isn't relevant at all to the problem.

  8. when using money you have to use addition and subtraction not multiplication and division.

  9. I heard even Einstein failed to answer a question of this type
