its quite scary to imagine, someone super fit and healthy to suddenly drop dead like that. I feel so sorry for his wife and children, it must be hard to deal with something like that.

why do athletes die so suddenly? :( its so sad.

  1. Drugs.Everybody knows that young players nowadays take drugs regularly and it is no coincidence that players are collapsing on the pitch more and more often. The F.A need to bin the random drugs tests and start testing every player on a regular basis

EDIT:I am sorry if i offended anyone.I was answering the "why do athletes die so suddenly?" part of the question and I didn't mean to imply that Phil O'Donnell used drugs

  2. QPR Fan I think you're answer is insensitive at best and offensive at worst at the moment.  As a life long Motherwell fan and one who was at Fir Park on Saturday and having idolised Phil O'Donnell from the age of 16 I can assure you he was not the type of player to take drugs, he didn't even drink.  He was a polite, mild mannered family guy who had an amazing career and, had it not been for injuries, would have been world class.

Yes, there are footballers who take drugs as in all walks of life but this wasn't an attention seeking, headline grabbing player.  This was a man who lived to kick the ball and take care of his family.

I am still absolutely devastated at losing our brave captain, and may his sould live on at Fir Park.

  3. Everybodies different inside and out, maybe the extra strain on some peoples heart affects them more, whether or not they are fit, perhaps if this footballer had a desk job, he may have lived unto his 80's, , knowone will ever know. this sort of thing is impossible to diagnose beforehand. I join you in sympathy for his family.

  4. i think its just genetic, its was probably going to happen anyway......soo i would guess that either a family member had this and phil didn't know about it....

  5. ever wonder if pushing your body to its physical limits is actually bad for it...just that we havent been able to prove how/why yet

  6. I don't know whay athletes die so suddenly.

I have my views but if I state them in here I will receive the same type of criticism that the QPR fan copped.

  7. QPRfan you are an a*se. Not all sportsmen take drugs. God bless Phil O'Donnell and his family.

  8. Personally speaking I think all professional sports persons should regularly receive E.C.G's and CAT scans and hopefully any further tragedies can be avoided!

Surely with all the medical advances that have been made over the past few years this wouldn't be a problem?

R.I.P. Phil. Condolences to your familly and friends.

  9. They die because they work there body so hard and they are always under a amazingly high amount of stress also the drugs they take don't help.

i also feel very sad that he died an i give my regards to his family and Friends.

    !"£$%^&8()

  10. Because the work their bodies far to hard!

    Think about it
