RK Shetty elected new president of IHF
RK Shetty has been elected the new president of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) after the veteran administrator, Kanwar Pal Singh Gill, who remained president of the Federation for almost two decades. A meeting of the special
governing body of the IFH was held of which representatives of fifty states hailing from across the country took part in the electoral process and elected new officials of the Federation.
The elections of the Federation were also held earlier in the month of October but Patna High Court came out with a stay order on the petition of one person, Sh Ejaz Hussain.
The newly elected body of Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) is comprised of one- President (RK Shetty), four vice-presidents (PS Gill of Punjab, Dinesh Reddy of Hyderabad, Jatinder Peters of Uttarakhand and Farrel Furtado Gracious
of Goa), Secretary General (Ashok Mathur), two Secretaries (Keshub Mahanta, Bula Ganguly), Joint Secretaries (Chandan Deb , Happy Mann), Treasurer (Suman Puri) and five members of Executive Board (Charanjit Singh Raheja , I Rehman, TR Thirumurgan, Radha Murthy
and Zotham Kimi).
Newly appointed Secretary General of the IHF, Ashok Mathur while speaking to reporters said that the electoral process has been completed and that according to the guidelines of the government, had organised the elections under
the supervision of a retired judge of High Court, Justice S K Dubey.
RK Shetty, the newly elected President of Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) in a delighted state said that the new job also brought lot of responsibilities for him. He said, “I’ll be lying if I say I am not excited. I am definitely
happy but at the same time the job comes with a lot of responsibilities. It is really hard to replace a person like Gill who has contributed immensely to Indian hockey.”
Shetty, however, stated that he was looking for such challenges and he had strategies in his mind to bring up the level of the game in the country.
At present the real issue at hand is whether the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) or Hockey India (HI) will control the affairs of the sport in the country as both the bodies look for legal verification on this matter. The Delhi
High Court in August 2010 acknowledged the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) as the sole authority to run the affairs of the game along with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Sports Authority of India (SAI).
President IHF, RK Shetty was confident that the IHF will be recongnised by the concerned authorities and it would run all the affairs of the game.
