  1. if u had a bit more money for one of the newer crf150s than i would go for that for sure but because u wont get a 07 or 08 crf150 for $2000 i think u should go for a 85

crf150 got alot more expensive in 07 because it went from a kids play bike to a propper race bike. this is another reason y u should get a 85 because if u get a crf150 below a 2007 modle u just wont have as much fun

  2. You probably won't find a used 150R for that price since it is a fairly new model, but you could find a nice clean RM85 for $2000 no problem. It is not true that 85cc 2 strokes are weak or unreliable. In fact there are more guys racing the 85 than the 150 by a long shot. It is one of the few classes that the 2 stroke still dominates.

  3. rm 85 if your not a women and a crf150 if you have no male parts. ha nah you can get a motocross version of the 150 that looks pretty s**y. expect to rebuild an 85 every couple of months to keep her going smoothly and you will have very little problems.

  4. Both are competent vehicles in their own right.  The RM85 should be lighter in weight though.  It would be pointless to go for a heavier vehicle, (even if it is better) if you are not able to handle it comfortably.  Try both for size.  If you find the RM85 easier, go for it.  It's quite reliable.  If you want even less maintenance, than the CRF150R is the way to go.

  5. Im in Aus too, and have worked in a bike dealership for a few years.

4strokes are LOTS more popular now, and 2strokes seem mainly to sell to people who race.

You will find most of the CR's, RM's and YZ 2 strokes will have been raced or thrashed.

2strokes dont break down, but they can be tempramental. If the plug oils up, it wont start, If the fuel mixture is too rich, it will oil the plug up, too lean, it will blow up. There is a lot more maintence in a 2stroke than a 4. Now, that said, 2strokes are generally cheaper to repair than a 4stroke as they are very simple motors.

I would advise you to buy the 4stroke. The CRF is a bigger bike, and its better to grow into a bike than grow out of one.

Dont limit yourself to Hondas (unless you are a die hard Honda person - I was die hard Yamaha and now I own a XR400) Try looking at Yamaha TTR range as well, super reliable.
