Do the Royal National Lifeboats Insitution's Lifeguards, get paid for their work?

I am thinking of becoming a beach lifeguard in Cornwall and i am a bit sceptical whether the lifeguards actually receive money for their work?

Please answer my question(s).

  1. No, it's a totally voluntary organisation

(read the what's in it for you section near the bottom)

  2. Although the RNLI Lifeboat crews are mainly volunteers, most of the beach lifeguards do get paid for what they do. There are some volunteer lifeguards, but if you check the RNLI website there is a page about applying to become a lifeguard, and most lifeguards are paid!

  3. Forgive a Yank for butting in, but I am not sure if your beach lifeguards are part of RNLI. My son is in the USCG and worked a small boat station for 4 years, and he is familiar with RNLI. They are like USCG small boat stations, but I think beach lifeguards may be more local in nature. Check it out, I don't claim to know, Things of that nature are completely different on this side of the Atlantic. I know RNLI are volunteers, unlike USCG which is a military component.

I just checked the website. It appears as if lifeguards get paid at neaches that are RNLI portected.
