ROC calls a meeting of Executive Committee department of RFF: Fencing News
Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) called a regular meeting of the Executive Committee department of the Russian Fencing Federation (RFF) on May 18. The first Voice President of Russian Fencing Federation, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, the Vice-presidents, Victor Rodionov,
MA Rydnik, AI Pavlov, YM Bychkov and AP Kapustin, CEO of Russian Fencing Federation, AA Startsev and Executive Secretary Russian Fencing Maltsev.
The agenda of the meeting included two main issues. The first issue was the summing up of the world championship among juniors and cadets that was taken place in Jordan from March 29 to April 6. The second issue was the adoption of the Russian national team
to compete in the European Championship among youth under the age of 23 years. The European Championships will be held in Kazan from May 27 to 31, 2011.
The First Vice President, Pozdnyakov applauded the Junior Fencing Team on their past performance. He replied on a question that the Russian Fencing Team was the best team in the world in the table of World Ranking with 368 points. He said that the Russian
Fencers had won several medals in the junior tournaments. He further stated that the Russian juniors took home eleven medals, including two gold medals, three silver and six bronze medals, while the junior Russian team won the two gold medals. Russian Cadets
won five medals including one gold medal and four bronze medals.
Pozdnyakov drew attention that the tournaments for fencers under the age of 23 years are a kind of buffer. They are organised so that athletes who come from at this age and struggling for the right, they never lost their potential while acting in the adult
team. The president promised that the Russian team would be a blend of youth and experience at the European Championship in Kazan. Pozdnyakov also told that they had established the team for European champion and it was composed of both juniors and fencers
from the main team.
It was focused in the meeting that there would be only three countries consisting Russia, Italy and Ukraine which would be performing with full strength. Bureau of the Executive Committee unanimously approved the list submitted by the Russian team.
The Vice-President, Kapustin, informed the audience that the European Fencing Championship would also be conducted in the French city, Henin-Beaumont from June 2-5. Those championships would include the events in four age groups for all types of weapons.
Russian would be sending 104 Veteran fencers for all kinds of events.
Rydnik reported that Russian Fencing Federation would conduct "Fleuret de St. Petersburg" from June 3-7, in St. Petersburg, which would include World Cup Grand Prix and the World Cup "A" category for women.
The meeting ended with an enthusiasm of victory of Russian Fencers in all the main events.
