ok. i'm a freshman and go to one of the best ROTC school in florida. i haven't gotten my uniforms. i have one that we wear every thursday. witch includes the green top and pants they you display your medals and ropes. the other one is for raider/adventure team. and that is like the heavy cammo outfit that you see the army wear if you see them in the airport or elsewhere.

i need some tips on how to clean these uniforms. because i have no idea and my sargent major is to occupied fitting at least 400 of us in uniforms by this Wednesday.

  1. For the Class A uniform, make sure that whatever you do to the top you do to the bottom, and vice versa. You need fading, or any other changes in color, to be uniform. As for the other uniform, do you have BDUs or ACUs? ACUs are supposed to be washed with detergents /without optical brighteners./ The uniforms are IR resistant, and brighteners will ruin that. Beyond that, just wash, dry, wear, repeat. They're very low maintenance. However, turn them inside out when you wash them. It'll extend the life of the velcro. 2. They are going to explain how to clean everything so relax. I got my uniform drycleaned once. You have to clean your metals with "brasso". You'll find it in almost any big store. Your shoes are easy to clean, just wife it down with water and soap if they are really dirty. Yeah, like I said, dont worry.

  3. Dry cleaning is the easiest solution but since you said you can't do that, you can get buy cleaning kit that you use in the dryer at Target or Kmart.  For the heavy camo outfit you simply wash in a washing machine and iron.  Make sure you cut all the exposed strings that hang off or use a lighter to melt them down so they aren't exposed.  Iron and press  The green top should be fine to wash in the regular wash.  It's the pants that might shrink (in the 'class A' uniform).  Hope this helps.
