ROYAL PSLMS ROOT SYSTEM- ARE THEY AGGRESSIVE?

I WOULD LIKE TO PLANT 3 ROYAL PALMS ABOUT 5 FEET FROM THE HOUSE. DO I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THEIR ROOTS SYSTEM LIKE CERTAIN TREES? WILL THEY LIFT MY FOUNDATION IN 20 YEARS? I LIKE THEY WAY THEY LOOK CLOSE TO THE HOUSE. PLEASE HELP. THANKS

  1. Oh boy. Don't do it. They do get a large root ball and, that close, will damage whatever is near it. Besides, do you really want something that can get 50 to 80 feet tall hanging over your roof?


  2. Palms have very small, shallow root balls compared to their overall size, and the roots are not considered to be invasive the way ficus trees are.

    I'd plant them 10 feet away, personally.
