Norton Antivirus found a virus that cannot be cleaned, quarantined or deleted what do I do?

Found a virus, Norton says the cleaned and quarantine failed. When I try to delete the program it says, "cannot delete, used by another person or programs."

How do I get rid of this virus?

Norton calls it "Downloader", but I think it could be called 'Virtumonde' (not sure though). I'm stuck with a desktop that says "WARNING SPYWARE FOUND ON COMPUTER" then some XP Antivirus window pops up, but it looks bogus since you can only accept and not decline, so I never download it. I've tried 8-10 things, any help appreciated, but I don't know anything about computers, so layman's terms appreciated.

I've tried spybot- S&D but it did not work (though since I've never really done this before I could have screwed it up). Norton's going crazy with its notification, though, like every 2 seconds.

  1. try a free antivirus software like avast and see if that removes it...

    also download spyware blaster.

have you got the "immunize funtion" on on spybot?

and also the download blocker and tea timer on on spybot--- under advanced tools

norton is ok but it slows down your computer, the free a/v does not...

see if the free a/v picks up and removes the virus

  2. RP: Norton Anti virus found a virus that cannot be cleaned, quarantined or deleted what do I do?

That's because Norton truly SUCKS!  I t can't delete the virus it can't quarantine the virus it can't disinfect the virus so what good is this program it has just failed everything  an Anti virus program is supposed to do.

Get rid of Norton and get Kaspersky

  3. Find file where viruses are found and delete those items in the file.. Not the file just the items. Also clean you internet cookies and temp files and run virus scan again
