RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup 2012: LPGA makes major strides this season
The LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association), which is known for staging women’s golf events, has now put itself in a stronger position than ever before, as it is going to organise the much-hyped RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup from March 14-18.
The event is scheduled to be played at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge’s Wildfire Golf Club, with a fearsome field comprising big names on the LPGA.
The efforts of LPGA are being appreciated by golf patrons, as there have been several occasions when the Association’s officials had to face trouble holding events, owing to shortage of funds.
Now that the Association is going to add another prestigious event to its archives, prominent players have already shown commitment to show up at the venue with new vigour.
According to the details, some of the key players on the LPGA have confirmed their participation.
However, there will be a number of players shining at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge’s Wildfire Golf Club who keep a low media profile.
American avid fans, who usually get drawn to big names on the course, have been giving the impression that the Cup this year will mean more to them due to several lesser-known faces.
The LPGA has been tackling financial issues for the past several months, but according to persons close to the patrons, much of the crisis has been averted, thanks to the efforts of Commissioner Michael Whan.
Propped up by new strategies, the LPGA has come out to tap the true potential of women’s golf by expanding its presence to countries that were once ignored.
For instance, most of the recent events were held in Asia — a move appreciated by players and observers.
The RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup is also going to dispel concerns over the popularity of American women’s golf.
Although the venue of the Cup, Phoenix, is the same as last year, presence of anonymous players has caused a little trouble to the officials.
Whan told that American fans have a unique taste for golf, as they usually go after players who are in the public eye.
He revealed that a fan from Scottsdale once told him via mail that the LPGA will be a success “until you get another great American superstar like Annika Sorenstam”.
