RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup: Korean players eager to record victory at Phoenix

Korean players, who are struggling to find a foothold in women’s golf, are going to prove their worth in the RR Donnelley LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Founders Cup, slated to begin from Thursday this week at Phoenix.
Korean players have come out as the influential players on the LPGA, as they have been recording stunning victories in the past events.
The top-50 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf include 19 players from Korea — a fact that highlights the growing strength of Asian golfers.
Although the number of Korean players in the world ranking is impressive, there have been some disappointments lately.
The recent months did not see Korean players rack up victories — something even the local players conceded to.
However, the Founders Cup this year may prove lucky for Koreans, as the current world number two Na Yeon Choi will also be gracing the JW Marriott Desert Ridge’s Wildfire Golf Club.
Choi is confident enough to keep her position stable in the Founders Cup. She said that she is aware of the possible pressure in the form of big names like Yani Tseng.
This season Koreans have seen a very easy triumph slip away. The ISP Handa Women’s Australian Open staged a relentless battle that pitted Ryu So-yeon and Seo Hee-Kyung against their rivals.
Both the Korea stars performed amazingly well, as they came close to carving out a victory in the event.
However, due to some careless moves in the final moments, they eliminated their chances to become successful. They lost to Jessica Korda.
Another rising star Shin Ji-yai, who is best known for winning 8 events on the LPGA Tour, remained in the headlines.
Despite displaying amazing performances in some of the events she played, her last season was the worst in his career.
Shin could not win any event in the 2011 season. She, however, proved her mettle in the Honda LPGA Thailand, as she finished tied for the third spot.
“Although I have not triumphed this season, I am happy that I did my best (in the last three tournaments,” Shin said at a press conference.
“As I have produced good scores in the opening events, I am looking forward to the upcoming tournaments,” she said.
