RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup to be staged at Phoenix for the 2nd straight year
The much-hyped RR Donnelley LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Founders Cup will be staged at the famous Phoenix golf resort this year too, with the participation of several leading players in women’s golf.
The Founders Cup, which is slated to start from March 14-18, will be played at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge’s Wildfire Golf Club.
The 72-hole match is likely to see the presence of star performer of the event, Karrie Webb, who won first edition in the 2011 season.
The event, which will be played 4 days, is offering a hefty purse of $1.5. The Founders Cup was launched to pay homage to LPGA founding fathers in recognition of their services to the sport and women’s golf.
Wildfire Golf Club is best known for staging competitive events and two especial golf courses.
The tournament will pit 132 players against each other and the first round is scheduled to commence on Thursday, March 15.
Since the event is popular among players, massive media coverage is being planned to air the 4 rounds.
The Golf Channel will be airing the tournament, with the full backing of the LPGA Tour.
CEO and President of RR Donnelley, Thomas J. Quinlan said that it is great opportunity for players to prove their worth in an event that is known to provide fun and tough competition.
He said that thanks to the cooperation of LPGA officials, the tournament has been able to gain much attention, which is evident from the fact that it has gained a sponsor.
“We are very proud to again sponsor a superb event that showcases exceptional athletic competition, recognizes the contributions of pioneering women and supports opportunities for girls to become involved in all of the positive attributes surrounding the
game,” Thomas said.
Speaking about the aim of the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup, he said that the influence of the tournament runs deep in golf culture.
“The Founders Cup reflects a deep respect for heritage and a desire to embrace innovation. These are values that we share as we look forward to an exciting RR Donnelley Founders Cup event,” he added.
The tournament is expected to see a tough battle, as the current world number one Yani Tseng has also committed to show up at Wildfire Golf Club.
