Question:

RSV and heart condition?

Its 12:15 am here and my daughter who is nearly 9 months old has a bad cough. She has a heart condition and is getting the RSV vaccination every month until the cold season is over. I rang the 24 hour maternal nurse and she suggested to wait it out overnight and see a doctor in the morning. My daughter seems ok, she has no fever, she is smiling and feeding well. But because she has a heart condition I am a little worried as the RSV virus can make children with heart conditions very sick. She is vaccinated but would the RSV vaccination make her immune or is there still a chance she can get RSV?

  1. Each shot provides antibodies that prevent RSV from entering the babies lungs. Missing or delaying one shot can put your baby at a higher risk. There is a chance she can get RSV but it will not be a severe case, that is what the shots are for, to protect her from getting a severe case. Good luck, i';m sure your baby will be fine. Hope she feels better soon!
