Hi there - can you tell me on a high level the difference between rugby union and rugby league? is one a professional organization in which players are paid like professional athletes here in the States? how does one 'join' or go about trying one for these teams? and does it require 100 percent training/commitment for a set # of months and during the 'season' like baseball, basketball, football, or hockey here in the US? or do players have full-time jobs and play this more as a hobby?

  1. Rugby union is a real mans sport with much more aggresive rules. Rugby league is a more civilized sport and tackles are contained and restricted. The real difference is the pace and union is a constant faster tempo where as league is stopped after every tackle like american football. Rugby union is only good however for world cup and no one watches the actual state teams play however league is where the money is and its a full time job for players. Sticking to league is the better option for money and chicks.

  2. nope, its all professional, if you think your good enough to try out for the teams, (and you have to be good) get your agent to sent them some footage, they my ask you to come over for a run, but its not very likly, the nrl has had problems with yankie league playes in the past

  3. I think nothing of RL and wish that RU would simply be RUGBY, because there is no point, all my life I have known and played rugby and now almost 3 decades of living I find out that there is RL??? Can you imagine the confusion!  RL is the national sport of Papau New Guinea, and is widely played in the Australia area????? Why would we even want to learn about this sport, as it is rugby (RL) is trying to expand and become a more widely accepted sport. Why have the little crazy step-brother (RL) tag along, for a piece of the pie? I say RL disband now!!!!
