RUNNERS: I just began running/jogging. Do you run every day?

Can you offer any tips/pointers to improve my endurance, minimize injury, and improve motivation? As of today, I can run nonstop for 23 minutes. My goal is to get up to at least 30 minutes. I'm not sure if I should run daily or every other day.

Tell me about your diet. What do you eat to support this type of exercise activity? How do I stay motivated to continue running, especially when I've yet to attain the "runner's high"? One thing is for certain though, once I finish the 23 minutes, it sure feels good.

I know this may be a lot. But I've always found it very helpful to get as much information from someone who's actually been where you're trying to go.

  1. I dont run on sundays

    Sundays are my rest days

    :)

  2. run 5-6 days a week to build up your endurance, but if you're really sore, be sure to take a day or two off, but still stretch on those days.

eat a lot of carbs and more high calorie foods, because running will speed up your metabolism, which will make you very hungry. and a runner's high is the best feeling ever!

  3. I hope this helps. I run everyday two times around my neighborhood. I eat carbs 2 hours before I run. For my morning runs, I eat 2 slices of toast and a glass of orange juice at around 8 am. Then I would run at 10 am. For evening runs, I would eat dinner at like 4:30 and run at 6:30. Any kind of pasta is good. When I am sore I take a day off. To stay motivated I made a workout playlist on my iPod to listen to as I run. It's all my favorite upbeat songs. Hope I helped!

  4. I run EVERYDAY! somedays i might feel like not doing it. but then i remind myself that i need to! i end up running atleast 11 miles everyday non-stop [: ok well what you should do to get up to that 30min goal:

1.eat fruits and veggies (always eat healthy)

2.Try running everyday and each day try to add an additional minute.

3.Drink tons of water. (no juice with like sugar when you are running, it can cause you to not feel good, and it could make you really just not feel good...LOL)

after that you should be on your way to a 30 minute run!!

    hope this helped [:

  5. yeah

  6. the last time i ran, was probably from the police!!... straight accross a field on my own

  7. dont run everyday unless your doing it for a sport, run like 4 to 5 time a week than after  a week or 2 rune 5 to 6.

  8. I definitely don't, I power walk though

  9. if you work out intensively every day (although i wouldnt call running for 23 min intensive) you need to ead alot of carbs.

i workout every day... conditioning soccer practice 2x a week, highschool practice for two hours every weekday, and 2-4 games on the weekends or 5 games throughout the week.

so just drink water and eat pasta

and if ur dead tired drink gatorade or get a jamba juice after an intense workout

    good luck(:

  10. Hey I'll try to help as much as possible so here we go. You can go to runnersworld.com for your nutrition needs and tips and stuff. I would suggest at least taking at least resting one day off to let your body recover, that would probably be the smartest thing to do. It'f also be good to get a lot of carbohydrates in (macaroni and all that good stuff).

The last thing I can suggest is to run with an ipod or someone else, makes thing so much easier because your not focusing on the run.

  11. wow its great you want to start running.  i don't run everyday, cuz its too hard on my calves and my knees.  but everyone is different so maybe you can.  just remember to always stretch (i made a bad mistake for awhile by not stretching, and i'm lucky i didn't get injured).  if you start to feel too much pain, just take a break and relax for a day and give your muscles a break.  as for the eating part, just eat normal, healthy meals.  running burns up alot of calories, so you probably need more pasta, rice, bread, ect.  (unless your trying to lose alot of weight or something). and don't eat right before you run or drink alot of water, either - it could give you a bad cramp:(  good luck!!:)

  12. If you're just starting out run every other day. Run 2 miles, then 3 miles, then 2 miles, the one long run at the end of the week for say 4 miles. Then each week add a mile to each run. By doing this you are gradually increasing you mileage and the distance you can run without stopping. The days in between running will give your body a chance to rest. On the off days you can cross train by riding a bike or swimming or weight lifting. Those are non impact exercises. When you run, If you can't run the whole distance it's ok. Walk and then run again when you can. After a few runs you will be amazed at how much further you can go without stopping.
