Raúl a target for Manchester United

Real Madrid striker Raúl is a potential target for Manchester United, who could be available on a free transfer. Madrid are also continuing their pursuit of Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard, but any deal could be scuppered by the asking price of £30million, which Madrid say they are unwilling to pay.

Manchester City have joined the hunt to sign Gerrard, and are going to offer out-of-favour midfielder Stephen Ireland as part of a deal. Barcelona full-back Dani Alves is attracting the interest of City as he is yet to sign a contract with the Spanish champions.

Treble-winners Inter Milan have told City they must include Carlos Tévez in any deal if they want to land Mario Balotelli.

Michael Ballack, released by Chelsea, is wanted by Manchester United, but German outfit Hamburg will enter the battle as well to sign the 34-year-old.

The United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is set to make a move for Neven Subotic of Borussia Dortmund. The defender has also been linked with a move to German champions Bayern Munich and Arsenal.

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger is considering a double bid to sign Gregory Van der Wiel and Jan Vertonghen, both defenders of Ajax.
