  5. Imaam adh-Dhahabee said in his Siyaar A’laam an-Nubalaa (5/390):

قال عيسى بن يونس جاءت الرافضة زيدا فقالوا تبرأ من أبي بكر وعمر حتى ننصرك قال بل أتولاهما قالوا إذا نرفضك فمن ثم قيل لهم الرافضة

((‘Eesaa bin Yoonus said: The Raafidah came to Zayd and said to him, “Free yourself from Abee Bakr and ‘Umar so that we can aid you” he said, “Rather I will give allegience to them” they said, “Then we reject you” so then it was said to them, “ar-Raafidah” (the rejectors)))

Shaykh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned in his Majmoo’ al-Fataawa (4/435):

قيل للإمام أحمد‏:‏ من الرافضي‏؟‏ قال‏:‏ الذي يسب أبا بكر وعمر‏.‏ وبهذا سميت الرافضة، فإنهم رفضوا زيد بن علي لما تولى الخليفتين أبا بكر وعمر، لبغضهم لهما، فالمبغض لهما هو الرافضي، وقيل‏:‏ إنما سموا رافضة لرفضهم أبا بكر وعمر

((It was said to Imaam Ahmad: “Who is the Raafidhee?” He said: “Those who insult Abaa Bakr and ‘Umar. And by this they were named the Raafidah, for they rejected Zayd bin ‘Alee when he gave allegiance to the two Khaleefah’s Abaa Bakr and ‘Umar, because of their hatred for them. And the one who hates them is the Raafidhee.” And they were named as the Raafidhah because of their rejection of Abaa Bakr and ‘Umar.))

    He then said:

((And the foundation of rejection is from the hypocrites and the herectics, for they followed the innovation of the heretic Ibn Saba’))

He also said in volume 28 on page 483:

وقد ذكر أهل العلم أن مبدأ الرفض إنما كان من الزنديق عبد الله بن سبأ؛ فإنه أظهر الإسلام وأبطن اليهودية، وطلب أن يفسد الإسلام، كما فعل بولص النصرانى، الذى كان يهوديا فى إفساد دين النصارى

((And the people of knowledge have mentioned that the beginning of the Rafdh (rejection) is from the Heretic (Zindeeq) ‘Abdullaah bin Saba’. For he manifested Islaam and he hid his Judaism and he sought to cause corruption in Islaam just like Paul the Christian, the Jewish one who caused corruption in the religion of the Christians.))

So the foundation of the Raafidhee belief is found in this mane, ‘Abdullaah bin Saba’.

Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalaanee said in his Leesaanul Meezaan:

عبد الله بن سبا من غلاة الزنادقة ضال مضل

((‘Abdullaah bin Saba’ from the extremists of the heretics, deviated and deviates others))

Ibn Abil ‘Izz al-Hanafee mentioned in his Sharh ‘Aqeedatut Tahaawiyyah on page 490:

((The foundations of Rafdh (rejection) came to begin from a heretic and hypocrite who intended to bring falsehood into the religion of Islaam and to bring insult to the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم as the scholars have mentioned. For indeed Abdullaah bin Saba’ when he manifested Islaam he sought to cause corruption in the religion of Islaam by plotting and vileness just as what Paul did with the Christian religion. First he manifested piety and then manifested enjoining the good and forbidding the evil, until he was involved in the Fitnah of ‘Uthmaan and his killing. Then when he entered Koofah he manifested extremism for ‘Alee and supporting him to gain from it necessities and this was made clear to ‘Alee so he sought his killing and fought him to Qarqees and the narrations of that are known in History.))

  6. Yes there r reports in shias books that ,concept of Ali's wilayat is first introduced by a ibn saba ,and he was the one who started cursing first three caliphs of Islam.

I will put the quotes from their books if ifind them.

Having established the authority of this historian directly from s**+'ah sources, let's read what al-Nubakhti had to say about Abdullah Ibn Saba':

"Abdullah bin Saba', was one of those who slandered Abu Bakr, Omar, Othman and the Companions and disowned them. He claimed that it was Ali [as] who enjoined this on him. Ali arrested him, and upon interrogation, admitted to the charge, and (Ali) ordered him to be executed. The People cried 'O Chief of Believers ! Do you execute a man calling to your love, Ahlul-Bayt, to your allegiance, and disowning your enemies?' He (Ali) then exiled him to al-Mada'in (Capital of Iran back then). Some of the knowledgeable companions of Ali [as] narrated that Abdullah bin Saba' was a Jew who embraced Islam and sided with Ali [as]. That he was of the opinion, at the time when he was a Jew, claiming that Yousha' bin Noon is after Moses. After his submission to Islam, after the demise of the Prophet [pbuh&hf], he claimed the same for Ali [as]. He was the first to publicly mandate the Imamah of Ali [as], disowning his enemies, and debated his opposers. From thence, those who oppose s**+'ism say: The origin of s**+'ism is rooted in Judaism. When Abdullah bin Saba' heard of the demise of Ali while in (his exile at) al-Mada'in, he said to the announcer of the news: 'You are a liar, if you are to bring his head in seventy bags, and brought seventy witnesses testifying to his death, we'll insist that he did not die nor murdered, and (he) shall not die till he rules the globe.'" [Firaq al-s**+'a, pp. 43, 44]

Second: Abu Amr bin Abdul Aziz al-Kash-s**+:

Another well known "Who's Who" critic who also mentioned Abdullah Ibn Saba', and one of the earliest s**+'ite biographist. In the introduction to his book, we read:

"He is trustworthy (thiqah), an adept, an expert in traditions and men, very knowledgeable, well founded in faith, on the upright path......The most important books on biographies of men are four, which are heavily depended on and (considered) the four basic pillars in this field, the most important and earliest of all is: Ma'rifat al-Naqileen anil-A'immah As-Sadiqeen (Knowing the Transmittors on The Authority of The Truthful Imams) known as Rijaal al-Kash-s**+." [Rijaal al-Kash-s**+ Introduction.]

Having established the authority of this scholar, let's examine what he has to say about this so-called "mythological" Jew, Abdullah Ibn Saba':

"Some people of knowledge mentioned that Abdullah bin Saba' was a Jew, who embraced Islam and supported Ali. While he was still a Jew, he used to go to extremism in calling Yousha' bin Noon as the appointee (successor) of Moses, thus after embracing Islam - after the demise of the Messenger of Allah [pbuh&hf] - he said the like about Ali. It was him who first publicly announced the mandatory Imamah for Ali, rejected and disowned his enemies, debated his opponents and called them Kafirs. Hence, those who oppose the s**+'ites often say: The s**+'ites and Rejectors (Rafidah) have their roots in Judaism" [Rijaal al-Kash-s**+, p.101;  Al-Mamaqaani, author of Tanqeeh al-Maqaal, who is an authoritative s**+'i biogrophist quoted the like in page 184 his said book]

Now, if these s**+'ah authorities lied about the identity of Abdullah Ibn Saba', then the possibility of them lying about other matters, like the events of Siffien, the murder of Sayyidina Husayn (Radhi Allahu ta'ala Anhu) and other s**+'i dogmas, stands greater. Consequently, if this is the case, doubt will overshadow any and all events and narrations recorded by them.

  10. The fabricated stories around the character of Abdullah Ibn Saba are the

malicious production of one of the disciples of the devil, namely Sayf Ibn

Umar al-Tamimi. He was a story teller, lived in the second century after

Hijrah, who shaped his stories by some primary facts he found in the

documented history of Islam available at that time. Sayf wrote a novel much

the same as what Salman Rushdi did in "Satanic Verses" with similar

motives, but with the difference that the role of Satan in this case was

given to poor Abdullah Ibn Saba.

Sayf Ibn Umar distorted the biographies of the companions of the Holy

Prophet (PBUH&HF) to please the government of his time, and to distort the

history of Shia and to ridicule Islam. Sayf was a staunch advocate of the

Umayads, who were known throughout history to be one of the worst enemies

of Ahlul-Bayt, and as such, it was in his best interest to invent such

stories to degrade the Shia. In his stories however he followed many other

goals one of which was to cleverly elevate the status of his tribe over

others by inventing some imaginary companions form his tribe. However many

Sunni scholars found numerous unjustifiable heresies in his reports which

was not limited to the issue of Abdullah Ibn Saba, and consequently they

abandoned his reports, and accuse him as a man of forgery and lies. Yet

Sayf's works enjoyed the support of a minority of Sunnis to this date.

Here, later on, I give the sayings of several leading Sunni scholars, who

all confirmed that Sayf Ibn Umar was an untrustworthy person and his

    stories are void.

Ideological studies indicate that most of those who hate the s**+'ite school

of thought (a lot of whom being the enemies of Islam anyway) justify their

enmity on this obvious heresy which they would exploit to backup their

attack on Shia. The approach which resembles the one adopted by Sayf Ibn

    Umar himself.
