Question:

Rabbit Grooming help?

I just recently bought a proffesional Slicker brush, for dogs of course, as I want to be a dog groomer. It works really well. I decided to try it on my rabbit, because she never had a good brushing, and was shedding like crazy.

After I brushed her alot, her coat was much smoother and she was enjoying it, but hair just kept coming. She is a Harlequin, and is black and dark cream. Her undercoat is a light cream, and thats all I was getting, so I was thinking ok, this is good, none of her colour was coming out. But her fur kept coming, its as if she had an unlimited amount of dead fur.

What I need to know is, will she go bald if I keep brushing, or is it just the way rabbits are, they have alot of dead fur. In dogs, I know, getting all the dead undercoat out makes them more comfortalble, but ive never looked up rabbit grooming before.

Can anyone help?

  1. instead of brushing her you should wet your hands and start going through her fur with your hands. it gets rid of a lot of dead fur, and when it dries it leaves her fur really soft.

  2. My rabbit has like pretty much the same thing! I bought her a 'rabbit brush' (though I com paired it to my dog brush and found very little differences) and as i brushed her she seemed to shed less and then more and more, I think this is normal, because everyone I know with a rabbit has the same dilemma, my rabbit is so bad I have to put a special sweater on when I hold her so that she doesn't shed on my clothes! So, I think its normal and if you keep doing what your doing and brushing her daily she should start to loose some of the dead fur.

Sorry that was kinda pointless and off topic but I hope some of it helped!
