Question:

Rabbit Harness??????

At first i thought a harness for rabbits was ridiculous, but i recently got one for our "mini rex" bunny, who we got on father's day (this year) and at that time she was a baby. now she looks full-grown. anyways, i put it on her in a bunny pen i have and she would hop, then shake then hop then shake and eventually moved around fine with it on. she is kept in a rabbit hutch because we have two dogs that woould eat her if she was running around in the backyard. the other day i kept the dogs inside, put the harness on the rabbit, and took her into the backyard. i set her onto the grass and i think the sudden environment and freedom (well, aside from being in a harness) scared her because she started hopping kinda wildly and thumped her feet a couple times (which i know means shes scared). How can i get her really used to the harness and introduce her to the backyard without her getting scared?

  1. it couldve been because she might have thought the dogs are out but if its the harness just take her around for short times till shes used to it or if its uncomfortable then adjust it till she stops thumping her feet or walking awkwardly

  2. Thumping means that she is saying 'this is MY area!!' and as of getting her used to the backyard, I would get a dogpin, and let her loose in there for a while untill she is used to it. (or block off part of the backyard so that the dogs can not get to her)

she should get used to the harnest eventually. but is she dosent, then she probly does not like it.

just like some cats or dogs do not like collors.

  3. My rabbit used to do that all the time when she was on the harness- and I took her out on it most days. I think she enjoyed the freedom.

Bunnies do sometimes do strange movements when they are happy they will hop about erratically - sometimes doing backflips and turns. I have seen one jump up and clap its feet together. When they run about all crazy like that it is called 'binky-ing' and it means bunny is very happy and excited.

  4. keep him in a cage then let him out sometimes
