Question:

Rabbit Shaking Question?

My rabbit is approximately three years old. He is an indoor bunny, though he does have a hutch outside where we sometimes let him hang out on nice days. He's an American and we rescued him from the Humane Society a little less than a year ago.

For some reason today, when I went to check on him and get him out of his hutch to play with him i noticed he kept shaking like a dog does when it is wet. When he hops he shakes his back to feet. He is not doing this constantly but quite a bit-- which is surprising because I have never seen him, nor any other rabbits doing this before. I tried to give him a rabbit cracker, and he didn't take it-- but I am not sure if this has to do with it. He is drinking quite normally as well... why is he shaking like that and almost twitching?

Any ideas would be great-- thanks!

  1. I know my bunnies usually do that when they are scared or stressed, like when going to the vet, and they won't eat either.

Is it possible an animal came around the hutch and scared him because rabbits take a while to calm down when they've had a scare.

  2. Twitching could be a sign of excitement, if they run, hop then twitch it could be a good sign but the shaking is a no-no. Is the rabbit cold or hot? Is it panting as it's shaking?

Make sure you look for other signs of things, such as weezing, a runny nose, etc. because that means you need to take it to the vet asap.

  3. Is there a dog near you? Maybe if its barking that scares the little guy.

  4. My rabbit did that too and then we realised it had fleas. Take it to a vet or try to look through its fur for clotted blood spots or fleas if you can see them
