  1. Go to the vet

  2. If the kit has blood coming out its mouth it is best to put it down as it has internal bleeding and will die anyway. It may have a birth defect or injury and this may be why mum tried to kill it.

If you do go to a vet good luck finding one that will know what to do with a rabbit let alone a 5 day old one  they will probably tell you to euthenaise it anyway!

Is the mum used to being handled? If she doesn't trust you and you are touching the kits too much she will attack and kill them as she thinks you are a predator and that they are attracting you to her house and she doesn't want to get eaten!

If you are sure you wan't to intervene take all the babies away from mum and make a small nest in a cage for them and feed them off mum twice a day.

This will require two people, one to hold mum on her back and prevent her from kicking and one to manage the kittens. Place the kittens on her upturned stomach and they will attach to a teat and suckle until they are full then place them back in the nest until the next feeding.

If you take this route make sure that the nest is kept clean and replace the bedding every day as mummy bunny would usually do this job, but as she won't be with them you need to keep the nest clean and free of disease. Cotton wool makes a good substitute for mums hair.

My personal advice however is to put down the discarded baby and let mum raise the others in peace after all "mother knows best"!

  3. Your first option should obviously should be to take it to the vet, however not everyone can afford that. I would not have your stepdad kill it, nor would I recommend trying to raise it by hand...rabbits are the hardest animal to hand raise and 99% chance it would die anyway. I would put it back in with the mother and observe like a hawk.

  4. do not freak out. leave him alone but check on him often

if the bleeding stopped hes going to be ok most likely

he will not suffer much more so do not kill him

his mother will take care of him if you do not touch him so just put water in the hutch and thats it. so i would recomend raising him only if the bleeding worsens severly or go to the vet if you can

    good luck
