We noticed today that he has lost all fur on the bottom of one of his front paws...and the skin is red and irritated...it looks as tho he was rubbing it raw but we dont know on what or why...can any tell us what this could be caused by? any suggestions to help it? we dont know any vets in the area that see rabbits.

  1. It's probably mites, fungal infection, or over grooming. You should probably try to find a vet. Also check if he has anything stuck in there, it could also be that.

  2. Mites attack!  Its true and that happened to my bunny too.  You need to bring it to a vet and it needs serveral jabs.  After that it will Grow its fur coat again on its leg and get well.  Not reali big deal.  Althougtht bunny will b quite scared during the 1st jab.  Just be with it

  3. allergies can cause pets to lose hair on feet and/or brow.

  4. you can see a online vet

  5. It sounds like sore hocks.

This is basically just what you described; a wound or irritation on the bottom of the foot. It is caused by the rabbit not having sufficient fur padding on their foot, or a large rabbit with small feet, causing pressure on the feet to be greater. There is actually no evidence that suggests that sore hocks are more common on wire floors than solid floors, as house rabbits can get sore hocks too.

The best way to treat it is to put Preparation H on the bottom of the foot daily. This dries up the spot and heals it quickly. While your rabbit is healing, provide a resting board if he is on wire so that he can get off the wire and have relief from it. Once the foot is healed, he should be fine again, but until then it will hurt to walk on. With the P.H., your rabit should be fully healed within a week.

    Good luck!

  6. Does your rabbit cage have a wire mesh bottom?  If so, I would suspect sore hocks.  Information on this and how to prevent it can be found here: http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/articles/so...  If your cage does not have a wire bottom, then this warrants a trip to your vet.

  7. Sounds like it could be sore hocks. Or fur mites.

You should really see a vet http://www.rabbit.org/vets/index.html
