I feeding my bunnies this morning and noticed my female has red urine. I think it's blood but read that rabbits pee all kinds of colors and most likely normal. I feed them lots of veggies, pellets, Orchard Grass & very rarely apples... She is not lethargic, acting like her normal self except she didn't want to be messed with and growled at me... She has been around my other female rabbit... maybe she's pregnant and one of the others isn't a girl after all???

  1. Is the urine all red or is it yellow with red streaks in it?

if its all red it might be normal but she might have bladder stones.

if its yellow with red streaks in it its most definatly a bladder or kidney problem. I suggest you take her to a vet and ask him/her about it.

  2. umm i think this is a question you should ask a local vet right away!

Rabbits' urine varies in color from clear to yellow to brown to bright red. If you see red in the urine, don’t panic! It may not be blood. Some foods actually turn the urine red. Also, make sure that the blood you see is not from some other part of the body, perhaps a broken nail. Actual blood in the urine can be a sign of cancer, bladder infection or urinary stones. If your rabbit is straining to urinate or is "leaking" puddles outside the litterbox, this is something to be concerned about. You may also notice "urine burn," caused when urine-soaked fur keeps the skin underneath damp and irritated. Antibiotics maybe needed, so take your rabbit to his veterinarian.

loss of appetite or a temperature. When you see red urine, don't panic; just keep your eyes open for other signs that may indicate a problem.

The red color will usually be gone in a day or two but can last for a much longer time. Actual blood in the urine would look like urine with red specks. If you're in doubt, don't risk your bunny's health -- have your vet test for blood in the urine.

She may have a uterine or urinary problem but are you sure it's blood? Rabbits also pee red urine when they have high levels of protein in their food.

If she just got spayed she is hemorrhaging (perhaps you just adopted her from a shelter?) and you need to rush her to the emergency room.

Before you jump to conclusions call your rabbit vet (veterinarian who is trained in rabbit medicine).

    Best wishes.
