Rabbits and Guinea Pigs

Is it ok to put rabbits and guinea pigs together? I have a male (soon to be fixed), and his brother likes to chew his ear off....o.O My little sister wants a rabbit, so it is ok to put them together? I thought it would be nice if he had a buddy to play with. :) He gets very lonely without any contact, and I feel so guilty when I go to school and leave him alone.

  3. Yes, guinea pigs and rabbits CAN get along. They have similar housing and dietary needs and they're both social animals, so putting them together can be a very good thing. When you first put them together just supervise and check in on them every so often on the first day just in case there's any problems, but there really shouldn't be.

I've put my Jersey Wooly and my guinea pig together before and they loved it!  Of course they don't need to be spayed/neutered.  I had an intact male rabbit and an intact female guinea pig and I can assure you that there wasn't anything wrong with it.  Just make sure the cage is nice and big and there are places where they can go to be by themselves (igloos, huts, etc.)  Good luck!

  7. NO. Rabbits and Guinea Pigs are different species and have different needs. A rabbit could easily kill or injure a guinea pig is a second. They have different dietary needs. If a guinea pig doesn't get enough vitamin C, they can have serious health problems. The rabbit will torment the smaller guinea pig.

    Would you put a cat and dog in the same crate, with one type or food and expect them to get along peacefully? No. So don't expect a guinea pig and rabbit to get along.

    Guinea pigs should stay with guinea pig and rabbit should stay with rabbits.

    Please do research on both species before getting a rabbit.
