Question:

Rabbits and cigarette smoke?

Hi! I was pondering getting a rabbit. I have everything I would need from previous pets and such but the sites I have read always add at the end some small note about cigarette smoke being harmful. Is this true? I have a family member that smokes like a chimney and I don't want to endanger a rabbit. I was eyeing some mini rex rabbits, if that counts for anything. Will the smoke affect them if they are in another room? Or how much does it take to affect them?

  1. stop smoking in the house

  2. Second hand smoke will be just as harmful to the rabbit as it is to you. For your own health, and your relatives, encourage this family member to quit smoking.  It is really bad for you to be around!  Second hand smoke is extremely harmful especially if you are being subjected to it constantly and regularly.  So sorry.

  3. second hand smoke is terrible for the rabbit

  4. If you can't convince your family member to quit smoking indoors, I would withhold from getting the rabbit.  Smoke affects all of us, so imagine what it would do to a tiny rodent.  I am a smoker but I don't smoke inside of my home, because everyone hates it.  I can't imagine it would be too pleasant for a pet either.  Good luck :-)

  5. I have a few rabbits and bunnies about 4 years ago. My dad smoked out on the back porch, and my rabbits would roam free in my back yard. So really nothing happened to them. But it might be different to you sense yours is rooms.

  6. Because  getting the people in your house to quit over a rabbit is next to impossible:

I recommend that if you do buy this bunny, keep it only in a room you are positibe has no smke. (Like your own room, perhaps?) Even a little can hurt them.
