Rabita Baku becomes national champion for 5th season in row – Volleyball news
The women’s volleyball club team of Azerbaijan, Rabita Baku, earned the status of national champion on account of great performance at national and international level.
The ladies around head coach Zoran Gajic proved their skills at various mega events and settled for the top national honour for fifth consecutive season.
The award ceremony held on Sunday, where different accolades were awarded to the outstanding players of Azerbaijan volleyball. In addition to Rabita Baku, other club team players also received the recognition for their brilliant acts. Here is a list of players,
who did well.

Nancy Jean Metcalf (USA/Lokomotiv BAKU) - Best Scorer
Iryna Zhukova (UKR/Rabita BAKU) - Best Setter
Mira Golubovic (SRB/Rabita BAKU)- Best Blocker
Mira Golubovic (SRB/Rabita BAKU) - Best Spiker
Polina Rahimova (AZE/Azerrail BAKU) - Best Server
Mariya Filipova (BUL/Lokomotiv BAKU) - Best Receiver
Janneke van Tienen (NED/Baki BAKU) - Best Digger
Mariya Filipova (BUL/Lokomotiv BAKU) - Best Libero
Most recently, the teams of Lokomotiv Baku and Baki Baku paved their way to the finals of 2012 CEV Challenge Cup. One of them secured the top position, while other ended up as runner-up team. Nonetheless, the team of Rabita Baku left both teams behind with
better record and emerged as the national champion.
In fact, Rabita Baku capped a memorable season which had started in early October 2011. The 2011 FIVB Club World Champship in Doha, Qatar was the first big achievement of Rabita Baku in the season. The Azerbaijani team proved its strength on the volleyball
court and finished in the top slot.
Later on, the team worked out more success by competing at the Top Volleyball International tournament in Swiss city Basel. Rabita Baku performed amazingly well and claimed the gold medal victory in Switzerland.
Currently, Rabita Baku competed at the Playoffs which were played with a double round robin. Rabita ladies were joined top five teams of the regular season. None of them could hinder the performance of Rabita Baku and finally Zoran Gajic’s team got hold
of the top position at national level.
